Emergency response — floods in Lower Silesia
When Storm Boris flooded south-western Poland in September 2024, our team made seven relief trips to Kłodzko and Lądek-Zdrój, reaching 184 families and six shelters with food, household goods, heating and children's shoes.
On 3 September 2024 heavy rains from Storm Boris caused severe flooding in south-western Poland, leaving many families homeless. Vela mobilised quickly with the support of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The HELIX response was designed as a targeted emergency intervention to stabilise affected families, provide material relief and restore safe, dignified living conditions.
Between September 2024 and February 2025 our team made seven trips to the Kłodzko and Lądek-Zdrój area, supporting 184 families and six collective shelters housing around 400 people. We delivered food packages, hygiene kits, children's shoes and school kits, household items — kitchen supplies, mattresses — coal for heating, and appliances such as washing machines, microwaves and kettles.
In Kraków, together with UNHCR Poland, we distributed family hygiene kits at the Aurora Community Centre to 215 beneficiaries in January 2025. Emergency response remains part of who we are: the network's founding purpose was to be present, fast, where the need is greatest.
